Not satisfied with two master’s degrees in chemistry and photonics, Manly combined his academic interests in a PhD developing lab-on-chips, which exploit the refractive properties of solutions to analyse their chemical composition. Permanently appointed as a post-doc at the Free University of Brussels, Manly reckoned that academia was the only place where photonics and chemistry could go hand in hand.

Things changed when he learnt that analysis of heat dissipation and mass transfer using photonics isn’t that different. Never shy of a little rock’n’roll, Manly promptly sold his house and left his cushy position to join Marlinks in its then-office: a rusty houseboat on the River Scheldt. This is where he rocked the cradle of Marlinks’ patented Depth of Burial model.

When he’s not making our server park run red-hot with calculations, Manly is a damn fine beer brewer. Indeed, there are many ways in which Manly takes care of Marlinks.
