Simon De Rijcke

Project Engineer

Simon graduated with a Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of Leuven in 2009. He continued his academical career, obtaining a PhD in 2014 on the grid integration of wind farms, focusing on the optimal use of kinetic energy in wind turbines to control the power output.

From 2014 to 2019, he and his family moved to Hamburg, Germany to work for Nordex-Acciona, a wind turbine OEM. There he co-designed the next generation of electrical drivetrains and controllers for wind turbines, reducing the cost of energy and facilitating grid integration. In 2019, he returned to Belgium and started working or ENGIE Laborelec. He served several clients in the energy sector, executing hardware-in-the-loop tests and performing EMC studies, among others. Having worked on a broad spectrum of projects and techniques, Simon has become a generalist.

Simon has gained substantial experience in the electrical design of turbines, farms, and grids. He has written multiple academic articles in journals and conference proceedings and holds several patents. At present, he fulfills the role of project engineer at Marlinks, developing and applying DTS and DAS techniques to monitor submarine cables.

Fun fact: Simon enjoys cycling and feels comfortable on – almost – any bike. Whenever you have an argument with him, start talking about gear types and the odds will turn in your favor.
